Teen Therapist in Boca Raton
Teenagers often carry more than they say: pressure at school, friendships that shift overnight, a home that runs in one language and a school that runs in another. Individual therapy with Najla Sallum, LCSW, gives a teen a private, steady place to sort it out.
- Florida LCSW #SW19846 · 14+ years of clinical practice
- Sessions in English, Português or Español
- In person in Boca Raton, or by secure video anywhere in Florida
- Confidential and HIPAA-compliant
Most teens do not ask for therapy. A parent usually notices the change first: grades slipping, a bedroom door that stays closed, sleep that flips upside down, irritability that does not fit the moment, or a teen who seems fine in public and falls apart at home. Sometimes the teen is the one who asks. Either way, the first step is the same: a conversation about what is happening and whether therapy is the right fit now.
Najla Sallum is a Florida Licensed Clinical Social Worker (SW19846) with more than 14 years of clinical practice. Teens are seen in individual therapy, in English, Português or Español, at the west Boca Raton office or by secure video anywhere in Florida.
What teen therapy can help with
- Anxiety, worry and panic
- Low mood, pulling away and losing interest
- Stress about school, grades and the future
- Conflict with parents and siblings
- Divorce, a move or a new blended family
- Growing up between two languages and two cultures
Signs it may be worth a conversation
Every teen has hard weeks, and moodiness on its own is not a diagnosis. It may be worth talking to someone when a change lasts more than a few weeks or starts getting in the way of school, sleep, friendships or family life. Parents often describe a teen pulling away from friends, giving up activities they used to enjoy, trouble sleeping, frequent stomachaches or headaches, or arguments that escalate fast and leave everyone exhausted.
You do not need to be sure. The first phone call is free, and part of its job is to help you decide whether therapy is the right step now.
Privacy for your teen, a role for you
Teens open up when they trust that the room is theirs. Parents also need to know their child is safe and that the work is going somewhere. How those two needs fit together is agreed at the start, with you and your teen, including the limits of confidentiality, such as a concern about safety.
Parents can share history and what they are seeing at home. When the conflict lives between parent and teen more than inside the teen, family therapy may be the better place to start, and the consultation call can help you decide.
When attention or learning is part of the picture
Sometimes what looks like anxiety or attitude is a teen struggling to focus, organize or keep up. If attention or developmental questions come up, Najla can coordinate ADHD or autism testing with licensed Florida psychologist partners, so therapy and testing each answer their own question.
